Headshot / Portrait FAQ
What should I wear?
We highly recommend keeping it simple. Unless you’re going for a specific look, stay away from busy patterns or logos. A simple black or white t-shirt always looks great. If you are unsure, you can always bring multiple options and Mike will help you decide.
Do make sure your clothes are wrinkle and lint-free! We do not remove excessive wrinkling in post-production.
Do I need a makeup/hair artist?
It’s completely up to you. We shoot with natural light, so what you see in real life is largely what you’ll get in photos — no need for extra makeup beyond what you’d normally wear. The vast majority of people you see in our photos did their own makeup + hair.
Can I have different backdrops?
We stock select backdrop colours in our studio, for which there’s no extra charge. If you’d like a specific colour that we don’t have in stock, we can likely order it in with advance notice (may be subject to a fee).
Will you photoshop things I don't like out of the picture?
Our philosophy is to create true-to-life photos and edit only things that are temporary: blemishes, redness, stray hairs, etc. We don’t believe in changing permanent parts of people’s bodies, like tucking a chin, etc. We put you in the most flattering lighting + position, to see the best ‘you’ without excessive editing 🙂
I hate getting my photo taken, and/or don't know how to pose. Will you coach me through it?
Absolutely. Very few people like getting their photo taken, and Mike will walk you through the whole process. It’s a very low-pressure environment, and part of the reason we give people up to an hour for sessions is so that they have time to relax.
Where is your studio located?
We’re within the cSpace King Edward building at #380, 1721 29th Ave SW. It’s in the Marda Loop/Bankview area of Calgary. There is free parking available on the north and east sides, along with street parking. We’re within the Car2Go zone, and there is a bus stop approximately 2 blocks east. Our building is wheelchair accessible.
Do you sell prints? Or can I print my own?
You can order prints through the online gallery that we send you, or take them to your own printer. The advantage of our prints is that we submit everything for you, so there’s no risk of blurry or pixellated prints. We print with professional printers on archival paper, and then mail everything right to your door.
